Israel is getting poorer and hungrier – 1.7 million Israelis – equivalent to 22% of the population – live below the poverty line.
It has one of the highest poverty level of all OECD member countries.
The result is ‘food insecurity’, or hunger in simple terms. Poverty sees families forced to choose between food and rent, schoolbooks, heating or medicine. About half opt for less food.
